Built in 1940 by architect Harry Hayden Whiteley for Edwin S. Rice, co-founder of the Krispy Kake Cone Company, the house showcases Art Deco elements, especially in its curved interiors. While it retains some vintage charm, the home has been refreshed with vibrant modern updates. Highlights include a striking bright-pink front door, a red railing on the winding stone staircase, and a floral inset window in the living room.

Outside, the yard is beautifully landscaped, complete with a small greenhouse for gardening enthusiasts. Depending on the season, you can relax in either the hot tub or the cold plunge. Or, just kick back in the outdoor seating area and soak in the views of the San Gabriel Mountains—when they’re blanketed in snow during winter, Obst affectionately referred to them as “the Silver Lake Alps.”

Obst grew up in the suburbs of New York City but later relocated to Los Angeles with her husband at the time to dive into the film industry. Throughout her career, she was a strong advocate for women, often highlighting female-driven narratives in her films. In addition to her home in Silver Lake, she had a ranch in Fredericksburg, Texas, which she referred to as her “happy place,” as reported by The New York Times. She passed away in October at the age of 74 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
