“From Zero to a $5 Billion Empire: Prateek Suri on Purpose, Philanthropy, and Powering Africa’s Future”
He built Maser Group from scratch, turned it into a $5 billion tech and infrastructure powerhouse, and recently saw it acquired by SCG Asia. But for Prateek Suri, the journey has only just begun. In this exclusive conversation, the visionary founder opens up about what truly drives him, his philanthropic mission, and how his new venture capital fund is redefining Africa’s future.
Q: Prateek, you’ve built one of the most inspiring business empires of this decade. What was the driving force behind Maser Group?
Prateek Suri:
Honestly, it was hunger. Not just for success—but for impact. I started with nothing. No family empire, no cushion. Just a vision to solve real problems. Maser Group was built brick by brick, driven by my belief that technology and infrastructure can change lives. That belief hasn’t changed—only the scale has.
Q: What does the acquisition of Maser Group by SCG Asia mean to you personally?
Prateek Suri:
It’s a milestone, not a finish line. I always built Maser to last, but I also knew it would evolve. SCG Asia saw the value not just in numbers, but in vision. It gives me the freedom now to focus on the next chapter: investing in Africa, where opportunity meets urgency.
Q: You’re now deeply involved in philanthropy and venture capital. Tell us about this new phase.
Prateek Suri:
After wealth, comes responsibility. I’m actively giving back through philanthropic efforts in health and education across Africa. Parallelly, I’m building a venture capital fund that’s aggressive on potential—targeting sectors like mining, shipping, AI, roadways, and large-scale infrastructure. These are Africa’s next growth engines.
Q: Why Africa? Why now?
Prateek Suri:
Because Africa is the future—and the world is only just waking up to that. Its youth, resources, and geopolitical position make it the next frontier. But Africa doesn’t need charity; it needs capital, trust, and vision. I bring all three to the table.
Q: What’s your leadership mantra today?
Prateek Suri:
Stay grounded. Stay driven. Let purpose lead, not ego. I’m not here to make headlines—I’m here to make legacy.
Q: Finally, what would you say to the young dreamers in Africa who are looking up to you?
Prateek Suri:
Dream like it’s impossible. Build like it’s inevitable. Africa doesn’t need saviors—it needs builders. I started from zero, so can you. And I’m here to invest in those dreams.
